About Ella

Dr. Ella F. Washington is an organizational psychologist on a mission to “Elevate Humanity in the Workplace.” For nearly two decades, she has helped individuals and organizations create workplaces that are equitable, inclusive, and transformative.

As a Professor of Practice at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, Dr. Ella has been recognized for her teaching excellence, earning the Excellence in Teaching Award (2021) and being named one of Poets & Quants’ 40 Under 40 MBA Professors (2023). She holds a Doctorate from Northwestern University and a BA from Spelman College.

In her recently published book,
"Unspoken," Dr. Washington directly assists individuals navigating the challenges of corporate environments. By decoding the implicit rules governing these spaces, she empowers them to overcome obstacles and fulfill their career aspirations. “Unspoken” has garnered widespread support and is an Amazon Bestseller across the areas of Business Diversity & Inclusion, Business Diversity & Inclusion, Business Mentoring & Coaching and Workplace Behavior. She is also the author of “The Necessary Journey: Making Real Progress on Equity and Inclusion”, a must-read for organizations committed to meaningful change in their workplace cultures.

Dr. Ella is also a trusted workplace strategist and consultant, known for her expertise in leadership dynamics, workplace innovation, and fostering inclusive cultures. Her strategies draw from years of experience, including her time leading Gallup’s Diversity and Inclusion practice and co-hosting the Center for Black Voices Cultural Competence Podcast.

Moreover, Dr. Washington's commitment extends beyond academia and business. As the Founder of the Ellavate Charity Foundation, she channels her passion for social impact through free webinars, community programs, and research initiatives. Based in Washington, D.C., Dr. Ella continues to inspire leaders, empower teams, and transform workplaces worldwide. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, running, and reading a good mystery novel.
